Atari reinvents another classic for iOS with Centipede: Origins

Atari turned 40 last week and part of their celebration was the launch of Centipede: Origins for iOS. As good geeks over 30 should recall, Centipede, was a smash hit for them back in the halcyon days of the video arcade. It was one of my favorites – incidentally or perhaps not, the first arcade game designed by a woman, Donna Bailey – with its precise trackball and few pixels. But, I never really knew what I was playing as.

Halfbrick Highlights Another Gadget Of The Anticipated Jetpack Joyride v1.3 Update

Halfbrick is still working out the kinks of their upcoming gadgets for the big Jetpack Joyride v1.3 update. As these new gadgets are developed, we’ve been provided small tidbits about each one. Today, we have another to share with you.

Causing Barry to attract every nearby coin, the Coin Magnet is a top choice for effortless financial gain. Veteran players will be feeling déjà vu because this capability is already available in Jetpack Joyride, although, not quite as conveniently. In the current version of the game, the magnetic field can only be applied to vehicles, making the Gravity Suit the closest thing to what the Coin Magnet will offer.

Here’s a quick demonstration of the Coin Magnet by the Legitimate Research laboratory’s quality control team.

Previous gadget announcements included Air Barrys, Ezy-Dodge Missiles, Free Ride, Freeze-O-Matic, Gemology, Nerd Repellent, and Gravity Belt. You can learn a little more and see the previous demonstration videos by clicking or tapping here, here, and here.

Beyond these showcased items, current demonstration video descriptions mention x-ray goggles and dozens of other gadgets that may not be previewed before the update is released (hopefully) within the next couple of weeks.

Keep running into zappers? Then slip on some AIR BARRYS to make dodging easier! Want to know what’s inside that vehicle pickup? Use some X-RAY SPECS! There are over 100 gadget combinations to choose from.

In addition, Touch Arcade claims up to two gadgets could be utilized at the same time.

With all of these teasers and still no update, Halfbrick Studios may need to copy Bolt Creative’s app update approach and post a Jetpack Joyride Update Song to keep fans distracted. Nevertheless, download your copy of Jetpack Joyride if you haven’t yet done so.

Jetpack Joyride is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 3.1.3 or later, and available in the App Store as a free download.
